United American Medicare Supplement Plans

You are here:

United American Medicare Supplement Plans became available in the ’60s when Medicare began. It began with one employee back in 1947 named C.L. Dunlap. Now the company has corporate headquarters in McKinney, Texas and approximately 1,000 people working in the home office.

Additionally, United American has earned consistently high ratings from A.M. Best, UA earned an A+ for more than 40 consecutive years.

This insurance carrier is a multi-line provider; they offer group, individual and Medicare Supplement insurance plans as well as life insurance, cancer, and critical illness coverage. This is a stable company, notorious for its competitive High Deductible Plan F Medigap.

United American Medigap Plan Benefits Overview

All Medigap plans get perfect reviews because these plans are standardized by the government. With these plans being standardized, a Plan F is a Plan F. No matter which company you decide to protect you, the benefits will be identical.

In every Medigap policy you will find these amazing features:

  • Flexibility to see any doctor that accepts Medicare assignment, which means you have access to over 800,000 providers
  • Plan A is offered EVERYWHERE that United American sells Medicare Supplements
  • Medigap plans are guaranteed renewable, which means the company can’t cancel your coverage for your health issues.
  • These plans cover you nationwide; whether you travel or move, the coverage goes where you go.
  • The 30-day free-look policy allows clients to cancel for any reason with a full refund.

United American Medigap Additional Benefits

UA is a company that continues to evolve, yet they remain defined by their core principles that have been set in stone for years.

  • Stability
  • Service
  • Quality
  • Commitment

These principles mean that United American meets the needs of its clients, goes the extra mile, provides quality coverage and their decisions are based on what is best for the customer.

United American offers 10 standardized Medigap plans, including; A, B, C, D, F/HDF, G, K, L, and N.

When you speak with one of our Medicare Specialists, they can help you identify the plan that will best suit your needs for coverage.

There are some states that have laws that make Medigap policies available to people under the age of 65 and eligible for Medicare due to disability.

Policy benefits would be the same for those under and over 65 years of age. Premiums depend on rating, age, sex, and location.

Please note that not every plan is available in every state, each state has different guidelines and consulting one of our licensed agents in your state is highly recommended.

United America Medicare Supplement Plan N

Medigap policy Plan N gives people the affordable premium they want in exchange for covering some of their own medical expenses.

Medicare Supplement Plan N requires beneficiaries to cover:

  • The Part B deductible
  • copayments up to $20 for doctor visits
  • $50 copayments for E.R. visits.
  • Part B excess charges.

Doctors can charge up to 15% beyond what Medicare covers, this is called Part B excess charges.

Medigap Plan N is great for people who want the plethora of covered doctors available on Medicare, with the low premium attached.

Plan F Offers 1st Dollar Coverage

Medicare Supplement Plan F is the most popular policy, mostly because it offers little to no out-of-pocket expenses. You can go to any Medicare-approved provider in the United States and you won’t need to pay anything out of pocket.

Of course, with benefits like that, you should expect a larger price tag. Although this plan is rather expensive, it truly offers peace of mind. When Medicare pays its portion of the bill, then the United American insurance company will pay the rest.

You should know, the average rate increases for Plan F are typically 6%-10% each year, depending on the company that ensures you and state you reside.

Also, in 2020 first-dollar coverage plans will retire. So, if you don’t become Medicare eligible until after 2020, you can’t enroll in Plan F.

United American High Deductible Plan F

Once the annual deductible is met, the High Deductible Plan F (HDF) is offering beneficiaries the same coverage as a standard Plan F.

Basically, after the deductible is met, the plan covers:

  • Medicare Part A and B deductible
  • Coverage for the 20% Medicare doesn’t pay
  • Excess charges
  • Foreign travel emergencies

United American has one of the most competitive Medigap High Deductible F Plans, offering some of the best rates in many states.

The calendar-year deductible is $2,300 for 2019. It’s likely that many retirees choose this option for the lower premium.

Although, some beneficiaries feel overwhelmed by the bills they receive for the remaining 20% that Medicare doesn’t cover.

As a beneficiary, it’s important that you remember when you spend money towards the deductible, that is your premium savings.

It’s possible to save quite a bit of currency on monthly premiums that you would have spent if you were signed up for the standard Plan F.

This includes Medicare Part A and Part B deductibles, but it doesn’t include the foreign travel emergency deductible.

Medigap Plan G Offered by United American

Medicare Supplement Plan G is my personal favorite, and it’s one of the most popular supplemental insurance policies.

Plan G offers comprehensive coverage with the opportunity for a lower premium. This policy will cover everything that standard Plan F covers, except for the annual Medicare Part B deductible.

In most states, the cost for Plan G is much lower than Plan F, and the coverage is more complete than Plan N.

This plan makes sense, especially if the annual premium savings is more than you pay out for the deductible, which is usually what happens.

Plus, the rate increases from year to year are typically lower than Plan F rate increases, which means more savings for you. Basically, this plan is all about savings and incredible coverage.

United American Medicare Supplement Plan Eligibility & Enrollment

With any Medigap policy, you’re able to enroll at any time.

Although, it’s best to enroll during your Guaranteed Issue (GI) period. The GI period occurs when you are both 65 and enrolled in Medicare Part B, it allows you to enroll in a Medigap plan without answering health questions.

This enrollment period only occurs once in your lifetime and lasts for six months. If you think you qualify, talking with one of our Medicare experts will allow you to confirm your eligibility.

If you’re eligible for Medicare but lost Medicaid, you qualify for Medigap coverage with GI rights. UA has options available in California, Kansas, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, and Maryland

United American Rate Increases

Some companies really try to keep rate increases low and United American is one of those companies. For 2019, and of course, this varies by state, the average rate increase was between 0.00- 3.2%.

Rates automatically increase because of age; however, the state you reside in can impact rate increases.

The most simple way to keep your rates low is to work with a broker. Our brokers represent multiple insurance carriers and will enroll you in the most suitable policy for you, not the highest commission for them.
