Due to Medigap standardization, Medigap Plan F with Aetna offers the same coverage as Plan F with any other carrier. The same stands true for all other lettered Medicare Supplement plans. The only difference between carriers is the monthly premium and company rating.
Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan F
Medicare Supplement Plan F is a tried-and-true favorite amongst Medicare enrollees. When you enroll in Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan F, the only costs you are responsible for is your monthly premiums. Aside from premiums, all other Medicare-covered tests and procedures are completely covered by this plan. You’ll never have to pay a copayment, coinsurance, or deductible with Plan F. However, the catch to this plan is that not all Medicare enrollees are eligible for coverage. To be eligible to enroll in Plan F, you must have been eligible for Original Medicare before January 1, 2020. Anyone eligible for coverage after this date will not be permitted to enroll in Plan F coverage.

Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan G
Although Plan F, Plan G, and Plan N are the most popular plans, in recent years, Medicare Supplement Plan G is quickly becoming the most popular Medigap plan available due to the discontinuation of Plan F for those new to Medicare.
When you enroll in Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan G, you pay the Medicare Part B deductible yourself, and then your Medicare Supplement plan covers the rest. These benefits make Medigap Plan G the ideal choice for those new to Medicare and even those eligible for Plan F whose annual savings on Plan G premiums can exceed the Medicare Part B deductible.

Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N
Medicare Supplement Plan N is a great option for someone who does not visit the doctor or hospital frequently but would like to have coverage in the event of an emergency. Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N will cover 100% of your costs after you meet the Medicare Part B deductible and pay a small copayment at the doctor’s or emergency room. In addition to these costs, you may be required to pay excess charges if you visit a doctor who does not accept Medicare assignment. However, this is rare and easily avoidable.

Aetna Medicare Supplement Rates
To be transparent, all Medicare Supplement insurance companies experience rate increases – not just Aetna. So, while it’s great to know about the previous rate increases, the information is not always predictable.
Rate increase predictions are almost impossible to make. Since each carrier uses a different scale to determine its rate increase, you simply don’t know until the numbers come out. Further, rate increases differ depending on geographic location and policy type.
Overall, Aetna Medigap rates conservatively. Increases can fall between 3% and 10% each year, depending on the plan, location, and other factors.
Aetna Medicare Supplement Eligibility
If you are new to Medicare and have recently enrolled in Medicare Part B, you likely have Aetna Medicare Supplement eligibility. The six months following your Medicare Part B enrollment is your chance for Medicare Supplement open enrollment.

During this time, you can enroll in an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan without answering underwriting health questions. Often referred to as an Aetna Senior Supplement, an Aetna Medigap plan allows you an additional six-month window to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan without answering health questions. This timeframe begins six months before your Medicare Part B goes active. So, your Aetna Senior Supplement eligibility without answering underwriting health questions begins six months before you turn 65 and ends six months after you turn 65.
Additionally, if you are enrolling in an Aetna Medicare Supplement plan after your open enrollment period ceases, you may need to answer underwriting health questions, depending on the state in which you reside. This means the carrier may deny you a policy for any reason, including pre-existing health conditions.
Aetna Medicare Supplement Reviews
Because Medicare Supplement plans offer standardized benefits, choosing a high-rated carrier for your Medigap coverage is essential. Aetna is an A-rated Medicare Supplement carrier by AM Best and receives a 73/100 from the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
While all insurance companies receive complaints, Aetna Medicare Supplement plans tend to receive less negative feedback than compliments when it comes to benefits, customer service, and claim approval.

Does the medigap part g cover foreign travel? Does is specifically state covid coverage?
Hi, Joy! Medicare Supplement Plan G does cover foreign travel emergency services. Additionally, COVID is a condition covered by Medicare.
I need cataract surgery, I have Medicare part A&B with Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan N. I can’t find anywhere if my Aetna supplement covers any part of necessary cataract surgery that’s not covered by Medicare.
Hello Charlene! Medicare typically does cover the cost of cataract surgery when medically necessary. This means that you Medicare Supplement Plan N will help cover the remaining costs. You will be responsible for the Part B deductible if not already met and copayments for the doctor.
After my husband was admitted to the hospital on January 12th, 2022, we found out we have an Aetna replacement plan, not an Aetna Medicare supplement plan. I had never heard of a replacement plan and the broker never told us about this or explained the difference. My husband had received horrible care at the hospital and when they wanted to send him to an extended care facility, Aetna continually denied the referrals, not paying any attention to the doctor or what care my husband actually needed. They finally approved the 3rd referral to a temporary care facility. Can we change to a Medicare supplement plan or do we have to wait for open enrollment? Does Aetna even have medicare supplement plans?
Christine, Aetna does offer Medicare Supplement plans. However, your husband must pass medical underwriting to be enrolled in the plan. To apply, your husband must be in a valid enrollment period or have a special enrollment period to leave his Medicare Advantage plan. I hope this helps.
I’m retired and up until the end of this month I had a Plan F that was working well except I didn’t have any Plan D Coverage. Instead of offering an equivalent plan that just added Plan D my agent only offered the Aetna Gold Advantage plan. Now I find out that my Advantage deductibles could overwhelm my retirement budget. I feel really stupid for not seeing this page earlier. 🙁
Dan, I understand your concerns about the Advantage plan deductible, however, you do have options! You are currently in the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period and may be eligible for a Trial Right if this is your first time being on Medicare Advantage. Our licensed agents will be able to walk you through this process and get you back on Original Medicare with a supplement and a drug plan. To reach us, complete out rate form.
Are all Plan N Supplements the same coverage for all carriers- Aetna I am interested in
I thought I saw on your site no Supplement Plans in NJ 08260 offered, but today I was told there was for a lessor cost then I am paying for other provider.
Hi Frances – all Plan N policies provide the same coverage. If you are interested in learning more about your options for your ZIP Code, feel free to call the number above or fill out our online rates form.
Hi Anna – one disadvantage of Advantage plans is the limited provider networks they come with. If you need to receive care in a nearby county or state, you could end up entirely paying out-of-pocket. Whether you should stay with Medicare Advantage or switch to Medigap depends on your health and budget needs.
I live in NJ, have Aetna premier explorer PPO, but am unable to get answer for 2022 regarding the Giveback option. Does my plan offer that option? There is no mention of it on the site or getting a response from them.
Thanks.
Hi Susan – if the site does not mention a giveback feature, chances are that the plan does not offer the feature. Also, for the most part, plans with a premium-reduction feature have $0 per month premiums.
I have been approved for Medicare in 2022, I don’t know what to do next, part a and
B have been approved with no payments per month. What to do next?

Hi Lloyd – you’ve come to the right place! You can explore our FAQ articles on your supplemental options, including Medigap and Medicare Advantage. To avoid future late enrollment penalties, you should also obtain prescription drug coverage through a Part D policy if you choose not to enroll in Medicare Advantage. I’ve linked some helpful articles for you in this comment.
I have not received any information from my American Continental Aetna program for 2022. I’m interested to see what the changes are going to be if any I’m also interested in the premium this year and of course the deductibles. Please send information regarding the new policies for Aetna G 2022. Thank you
Hi Betty – as premiums vary per person, you’ll receive this information from your plan.
