Medigap Plan F (Medicare Supplement)
Please note: Medigap Plan F insurance, also known as Medicare Part F Plans, are the exact same type of policy as Medicare Supplement insurance. If you read about one or the other, these two policies are 100% the exact same, just two different names.
Medigap Plan F is a supplement policy sold by private insurance companies that pays for some of the “gaps” found in Original Medicare such as co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles. There are 10 standardized Medigap plans in total, lettered from A through N.
Private insurance companies can offer some or all 10 plans, but regardless of the carrier the benefits will remain the same for each letter plan. However, the cost can differ from carrier to carrier depending on a few factors. Coverage is important, and because there are so many plans to pick from that cover only certain things, choosing a plan can be confusing.
Medigap Plan F Coverage
One of the most frequent questions we receive is “What is Medicare Part F?” Out of all the supplement plans, Medigap Plan F is the plan Medicare beneficiaries select over 60% of the time. This is because is checks off every box across the coverage chart. Most seniors don’t want to worry about their healthcare costs, if they can afford to pay a little extra money to have peace of mind, they will.
The easiest way to put it is, if Medicare pays their 80% then the Plan F Medigap will cover the other 20% with no out of pocket costs to the client. Many people call it, “first day first dollar coverage”. With it being the most comprehensive plan out of all 10 Medigap plans, this plan if one of the most expensive.
What if Medicare Part F Costs are Too High
If Medigap Plan F cost is to high there are other supplement plans that also provide great benefits. In most cases, if Part F Medicare costs are to high, clients opt for Medigap Plan G. The coverage is almost the same, the only difference is with Plan G you pay your Part B deductible. Depending on your current health, you could save a few hundred dollars a year since the premiums are much cheaper.
Another option is High Deductible Plan F. The difference between this plan and it’s sister Plan F is the premium being significantly lower, but you’re responsible for any out of pockets expenses until you’ve reached the deductible and the coverage kicks in.
Medigap Plan F Rates
Medigap Plan F rates are difficult to pinpoint, because certain factors determine the rates. Age, location, gender and overall health make a difference when searching for rates. Even though benefits from all Plan F’s are 100% identical, the prices very between the carriers. To compare Medigap Plan F rates for free online, fill out the form above!
