Anthem Medicare Supplement Plans in 2023

Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans help cover the gaps in Original Medicare (Medicare Part A and Part B) coverage. These gaps include deductibles, coinsurance, copayments, and more.

Ten standardized Medicare Supplement plans are identified by a letter, A through N. These options and two high-deductible plans are available to Medicare enrollees.

All Medicare Supplement plans have standardized benefits. So, a Medicare Supplement Plan N through Anthem provides the same benefits as a Medicare Supplement Plan N through Cigna or Mutual of Omaha.

Thus, price, carrier rating, and additional perks are essential to review when choosing a Medicare Supplement carrier.

Anthem only offers four Medigap options to Medicare Beneficiaries. Those plans are:

However, the most popular Anthem Medicare Supplement plans are Medigap Plan F, Plan G, and Plan N.

*Remember, Medicare Supplement Plan F is only available to those who received Original Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan F

Anthem offers Medicare Supplement Plan F to those who qualify for coverage. To be eligible for Medigap Plan F, you have Original Medicare before January 1, 2020. If you enroll in Medicare after this date, you are not eligible to enroll in Plan F.

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan F will cover the following:

  • Medicare Part A deductible
  • Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) care coinsurance
  • Medicare Part B deductible
  • Medicare Part B excess charges
  • Medicare Part B preventive care coinsurance
  • Foreign travel emergency care

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan G

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan G includes all the same benefits as Plan F minus the Medicare Part B deductible. You must meet the deductible before your Medicare Supplement plan covers you at 100%.

For those not eligible for Medicare Supplement Plan F, Plan G is the most comprehensive plan. Plus, the plan has a lower monthly premium, so even those eligible for Medicare Supplement Plan F tend to enroll in Plan G, as it can be more cost-effective in the long run.

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan N

Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan N is another excellent Anthem Medigap option. With a lower monthly premium, Medigap Plan N still provides great benefits.

Suppose you enroll in Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan N. In that case, you will be responsible for covering the Medicare Part B deductible, small copayments at the doctor and emergency room, and Medicare excess charges, if applicable. However, excess charges are rare, so you may not encounter them.

To be eligible for an Anthem Medicare Supplement insurance plan, you must enroll in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B. Once you are eligible, the best time to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan is during your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment.

During this time, you have a guaranteed issue right to enroll in any available Medicare Supplement plan without answering underwriting health questions. This means no insurer will deny you coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

When you enroll in an Anthem Medicare Supplement outside of your guaranteed issue window, some major health conditions that can result in denial of coverage include:
