Empowering their members to lead healthy and active lives is one of the many perks. Humana is a company that genuinely cares about their clients.

Let’s review Humana’s top plan options to give you a better understanding of their coverage. We’ll also go over the experiences others had with Humana so you can learn about the values of Humana.

What is Humana Medicare?

Humana is known for their Medicare options. Coverage between states can vary.

For some, a Humana Medigap policy will be the most suitable. While others may find a Huaman Medicare Advantage plan makes the most sense. Further, some people may find they only want Part D through Humana.

The best Humana plan for you will depend on your situation and budget.

Let’s take a look at some of your options below so we can help you determine your ideal plan.

Humana Plan G

Plan G is currently the most popular Medigap plan because it gives you the best overall deal. It is common for Beneficiaries to save $250+ a year by selecting Plan G instead of Plan F.

In most cases, that savings is more than the cost of the Part B deductible. Meaning, it could be more financially responsible to choose Plan G than Plan F.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plan F

Plan F is the most comprehensive plan. When a beneficiary has Plan F, they have no out-of-pocket cost for hospital or doctors’ visits.

The premium is the set amount they pay each month. Many may find this is too much insurance. But, if Plan G in your area doesn’t provide significant savings, Plan F could be a sensible policy for a person that frequents the doctor.

Although, anyone eligible for Medicare in or after 2020, won’t be eligible for this option.

Humana Medigap Plan N

You may consider Plan N suitable if you don’t go to the doctor often. It features small copays for the doctor and emergency room in exchange for a lower premium.

Plan N contains the basic benefits and Part A costs. Yet, it doesn’t cover the Part B deductible or any potential excess charges.

What does a Humana Medicare Supplement Really Cost

Overall, the cost of Humana Medigap can range from $50 a month to $300 a month depending on the plan you choose.

The cost of Medigap varies more by the state than by carrier. Most top carriers have similar prices. Those prices are affected by location.

Further, you may pay more if you’re outside the Medigap Open Enrollment Period when you sign up. Also, Medigap can charge higher premiums to those with pre-existing conditions.

The best way to obtain an accurate quote is by using a professional insurance agent that specializes in Medicare.

Humana Medicare Supplement Plan Rate Increases

The cost of your supplement will increase every year. Usually, the rate increase is about 3% each year.

Also, insurance companies increase the rate for entire states all at once. These increases are plan-specific; so, Humana could increase Plan F by 5%, Plan G by 4%, and Plan N by 3%.

Sometime the rate will only go up a couple of dollars and other times the rates increase more. Working with an agent ensures you have access to different options when you need them.

Humana is one of the leaders in the Medicare Advantage market. In some areas, Part C plans have options that lower Part B premium costs.

Many of these plans have a $0 premium. Further, they offer many Special Needs Plans to cater to those with chronic conditions.

Humana even worked hard during COVID-19 to waive out of pocket costs for members of Advantage plans for in-network services like primary care, telehealth, and outpatient behavior health from May 1, 2020, through the end of the calendar year.

Many Humana plans offer fitness programs such as SilverSneakers. Also, plans can include Part D, dental, and vision. Some of these benefits cost a small extra premium. Not all plans are available in all areas.

The Maximum Out of Pocket can range from $3,500 to $10,000 depending on the policy you choose.

How do You Know if You Qualify for Humana Medicare Advantage

Before you apply for Humana you’ll need to be able to answer a few questions, like your date of birth, Medicare eligibility, and current benefits. Currently, End-Stage Renal Disease patients don’t qualify for a Medicare Advantage plan unless there is an ESRD Special Needs Plan in the area.

Also, there must be a qualifying event to change plans. The Annual Enrollment Period, the Open Enrollment Period, or a Special Enrollment Period would need to be effective for possible plan changes.

Outside of the various enrollment periods, it’s nearly impossible to change plans.
