Cigna Medicare Supplement Plans
Based out of Bloomfield, Connecticut, Cigna insures over 70 million people around the world. Cigna offers a long list of insurance products such as health, life, accident, disability and of course, Cigna Medicare Supplement Plans.
Insurance companies that offer a wide variety of insurance products are typically healthy and stable companies, Cigna is no exception.
Cigna offers Medicare Supplements in many states. Sometimes they sell their Medigap policies under subsidiary names like Loyal American Life Insurance Company, American Retirement Life Insurance Company or CHLIC. These are all the same amazing company though,
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plans
Like all Medicare Supplement companies, Cigna Medicare Supplement plans will:
- Protect you from unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.
- Help pay for your Medicare deductibles, copayments and coinsurances.
- Your insurance can be used nationwide, and you can see ANY doctor that accepts Medicare.
- Offer premiums that are competitive in many states.
- Your policy will be guaranteed renewable.
Medicare is the primary insurance and the Supplement is secondary. If Medicare covers a service, then your Cigna Medigap policy will cover their share of the service provided. Medicare pays the claims first and then the remainder would be sent to Cigna.
If you stay enrolled in Medicare and pay your premiums, then your policy stays in force. Regardless of your health conditions. Cigna offers several of the standardized Medigap options.
Of course, it depends on which plan you enroll in. A supplement could cover your Part A hospital deductibles, coinsurances and your Part B outpatient deductibles and coinsurances.
Let’s explore some of Cigna’s Medicare Supplement Plans!
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan N
All Medicare Supplements are standardized by the federal government, including the ones offered by Cigna. So, when you purchase Plan N through Cigna, you can be confident that your Plan N includes the same exact health benefits as any other Plan N.
Plan N pays 100% of the Part B coinsurance, except for a copayment not to exceed $20 for some office visits and $50 for Emergency Room visits that don’t result in an inpatient admission. Beneficiaries are also responsible for any Part B excess charges.
Plan N is popular among beneficiaries who want a lower premium option without losing the great benefits of Medicare Supplement coverage.
Also, Cigna offeres a 7% household premium discount with Plan N for some applicants.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan F
Just like every other supplement, the plan is standardized. This means that Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan F offers the same benefits as any other Plan F.
Cigna Medigap Plan F will cover both the Part A and B deductibles, as well as the 20% coinsurance for Medicare-covered services that you would be responsible for with Original Medicare.
Medicare Supplement Plan F is the most comprehensive coverage option for Medicare. It’s considered first-dollar coverage and leaves you with little to no out-of-pocket expenses.
If you have a Cigna Medigap policy, you can receive any healthcare service from any doctor or hospital that accepts Medicare Assignment.
Plus, with a fixed monthly expense and usually no unexpected out-of-pocket costs for you, a Plan F can give you real peace of mind. This Cigna policy picks up right where Medicare leaves off.
Once Medicare pays its share of a bill, it sends the balance to the Medigap company to pay the rest. The Medicare Supplement company doesn’t get to decide which benefits they will honor, and which benefits they won’t.
If Medicare covers it, the Medigap plan will cover it. Medicare Supplement Plan F has been one of the most popular plans on the market for decades. Besides, Medicare Supplement Plan F Reviews are all incredible.
First-Dollar Coverage Plans
In 2020, first-dollar coverage plans will be going away, including Plan F. Those enrolled in Plan F will be able to keep their plan. Congress passed legislation, Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015.
Lawmakers believe that when people have no deductible, they will be more likely to use their coverage for minor issues that don’t require medical care.
As long as you became Medicare eligible before 2020, you can continue to enroll into first-dollar coverage plans. Even after they are discontinued.
Cigna Medicare Supplement High Deductible Plan F
After the annual deductible is met, the High Deductible Plan F is the same coverage as the Standard Plan F. This policy will cover the Medicare Part A and B deductible, excess charges and foreign travel emergencies.
Many people choose this option because they want to benefit from the lower premium. The monthly savings can be appealing to many retirees. Although, there are clients that feel like the out-of-pocket expenses are a bit much once they start getting a bill for the other 20% that Medicare doesn’t cover (up until the deductible is met).
High Deductible Plan F is still considered great coverage, and many people are happy with the plan and its benefits. You just need to remember when you spend money on the deductible that you’re saving in lower premiums.
You could save quite a bit in premiums that you would have paid if you were enrolled in the Standard Plan F. Even though this plan is not really first-dollar coverage, it will also be going away come 2020.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan G
Plan G is a favorite for agents and clients alike. The cost is more affordable than the Plan F in most states. The coverage is also more comprehensive than Plan N.
Our clients reap the benefits of a lower premium in exchange for paying the Part B deductible once each year. This is an amazing value if the annual premium is more than you pay out for the deductible, which most of the time is the case.
If you find Plan G in your area that is cheaper than Plan F, it makes financial sense to enroll in the Plan G if the premium cost difference outweighs the Part B deductible.
The annual savings in premiums can be a few hundred dollars more than the cost of the Part B annual deductible.
If you’re looking for a plan with low monthly premiums, combined benefits and a team approach to health care then you should consider a Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Eligibility & Enrollment
You’re eligible for Cigna Medicare Supplements as long as your Part B is in effect. Unlike Original Medicare, you can enroll in Medicare Supplements at any time of the year.
To avoid underwriting questions and guaranteed your acceptance into the plan, you need to enroll during your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period.
Your OEP for supplement plans is the first six months after your Part B is in effect. During this period, you’re granted guaranteed issue. You won’t have to worry about being denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions.
Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan Premiums
All Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan premiums are different in each state. They can also use different pricing methods in each state to determine your premium.
Other factors that impact your premium is your age, location, gender, habits like smoking, etc. That’s why no agent or broker can give you an accurate quote without getting some personal information from you first.
For example, a male beneficiary residing in California that’s 72 years old who doesn’t smoke will pay an average premium of $261 for Plan F and $203 for Plan G.
However, a female beneficiary that’s 66 residing in Texas who doesn’t smoke will pay an average premium of $131 for Plan F and $101 for Plan G.
As you can see, it’s important to have a licensed agent by your side that can compare all the available plans in your area with all the carriers.
Medicare Advantage Plans with Cigna
Cigna has Medicare Advantage Plans that include prescription drug coverage, as well as plans that don’t cover prescription drugs. Each Medicare Advantage Plan offers comprehensive benefits for all medically necessary services.
Cigna Medicare Advantage Plans use designated networks of doctors and hospitals. It’s important to make sure your primary physician is in their network before enrolling.
That’s one of the main reasons new beneficiaries choose to enroll into a Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan vs a Medicare Advantage Plan.
Another thing to note, due to the amount of beneficiaries enrolling in advantage plans that didn’t give them the coverage they thought, Medicare is bringing back the Medicare Open Enrollment Period in 2019.
Cigna Part D Prescription Drug Plans
Cigna Medicare Part D plans contract with about 64,000 network pharmacies throughout the country, including major retail pharmacy, grocery chains, and local independent pharmacies. With a network this large, you get convenient access to pharmacies in your area.
There are Medicare Part D plans that offer a discount when you order a 90-day supply of your medication through Cigna’s preferred network mail order pharmacy. Discounts will vary by plan.
They even have home delivery options for your maintenance medications, and you receive preferred cost-shares. So, you can save money on your prescriptions and on your fuel.
