I’m sure you have many questions about Medicare Supplements, like: Which carriers get the best Medicare Supplement reviews or who has the best Medicare Supplement Plan F?
If you’re anything like most people, you need consumer reviews before you can make a final decision on a product or service that you want to purchase.
So, naturally, when it’s time to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan, you go looking for the Medicare Supplement plan with the best online reviews.
Medicare Supplement Plan F has the most coverage compared to any Medicare Supplement plan. So, most likely you’re looking for Medicare Supplement Plan F reviews.
Perhaps the reviews will tell you how comprehensive the coverage really is and how often the carrier pays on time. Maybe you want reviews on how many hassles at doctor’s offices you’re going to run into or things like that.
Do you want to know how various Medicare Supplement companies score on those things? Let me tell you my own opinion on how they score:
Medicare Plan F Reviews for the Best Supplemental Insurance Companies:
- Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- American Retirement Life Insurance Medicare Plan F: A+
- Anthem Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Plan F: A+
- Cigna Medicare Supplement: A+
- Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement: A+
- Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement: A+
- Banker’s Life Medicare Supplement: A+
- Gerber Medicare Supplement: A+
- UnitedHealthcare Medicare Supplement A+
- United American Medicare Supplement A+
- ANY OTHER insurance company’s Medicare Plan F: A+
Have you asked yourself how it’s possible that I would give them all a two thumbs-up A+ rating?
The Best Benefits on Medicare Supplement Plans
The reason I give every company an A+ rating is because Medicare supplements are standardized by the federal government. This means that if you buy a Plan F, no matter what company you go with, the benefits are the exact same!
The same goes for Plan G and Plan N and all the other Medicare Supplement plans. These benefits are standardized, meaning the insurance company can’t change them.
Once Medicare pays its share of a bill, it sends the balance to your Medicare Supplement company to pay the rest. The Medicare supplement company doesn’t get to decide which benefits they will honor, and which benefits they won’t.
If Medicare covers it, the Medigap plan will cover it. So, on the question of which company has the best Medicare Supplement plan, they all do and they all get an A+.
Awesome, we know that the benefits and coverage with ALL Medicare Supplement plans offered by different companies out there are wonderful. But what about timely claims payments? Who gets the best Medicare Supplement reviews on claims paid?
The Best Medicare Supplement Plans for Timely Claim Payments
When it comes to claims payment, I give them all an A+ too.
In my experience as an insurance agent, all Medicare supplement plans pay claims on time. None of them will deny any bill that Medicare already approved. The Medigap companies will pay promptly because Medicare passes the claim on to your supplement company after Medicare pays its share.
The Medigap companies can’t pick and choose which claims to pay. If Medicare covers their portion, then the supplement will as well.
Please note that the excellent track record on claims payment is EXTREMELY DIFFERENT for Medicare Advantage plans. There are companies that offer both Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage plans.
Companies like Humana, Aetna, Cigna and UnitedHealthcare offer both Medigap and Medicare Advantage plans. The reviews for Advantage plans are often much different than the Medicare supplement company ratings.
So, if you read a review out there that says one of these carriers has been sanctioned by Medicare, they are referring to the separate Medicare Advantage division.
I’m positive that the Medicare Supplement company that sells you a Medigap policy will have an excellent payment record. If you’re unsure because you read a bad review, call us and get the real information.
Best Medigap Plan for Access to Your Favorite Doctors
There are many great things about Medicare supplements, including the access to physicians being super easy. This is because, Medicare itself is your network.
If the doctor accepts Medicare assignment, then they will accept your Medicare Supplement plan as well. Medicare is the primary payer and it pays its share of your benefits, then sends the rest on to your secondary payer (the Medicare supplement company) to pay the rest.
So, which Medicare Supplement company is the best choice for doctors? Once again, EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!
You don’t need to ask the doctors if they take “UnitedHealthcare Medicare Supplement” or “Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement”. You’ll ask: “Do you take Traditional Medicare?” if the doctor says yes, you can use your supplement insurance at his office with no worries.
In the decade I’ve had working with insurance, I have never, ever had a doctor turn away a Medicare patient because he doesn’t recognize the name of the Medicare Supplement carrier.
Even if the doctor tried, you could give us a quick call from your doctor’s office. We can clear up any confusion from an uneducated doctor office worker in seconds.
Choosing the Best Medicare Supplement Plan
If the benefits, claims payment record and doctor access are great will every Medicare Supplement company, which one do you pick? Personally, I recommend looking at other important factors.
How long as the carrier been in business? How long have they been offering Medicare Supplements? Many people care about stability, and for good reasons.
There are many stable companies in the Medicare Supplement market. For example, Aetna Medicare Supplements are one of the best Medicare Supplemental plans for a client who cares most about stability. Aetna has been around since 1850, and I know that makes many clients feel safe.
If you’re a person who has had Humana insurance through an employer in the past, and you had a good experience and feel sold about Humana, then you may feel they make a great choice. There are thousands insured with them, with no problems.
What I’m telling you is this, peace of mind does factor into these choices. If you trust a company over another for reasons like these, go for it. You can’t go wrong with a Medicare Supplement.
If you like the company and they offer Plan F or any other Medicare Supplement plan, you’ll certainly be in great hands.
If you’re enrolling during your one-time Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period, then you don’t have to answer health questions. Pretty much any plan or carrier will give you great coverage at the best price possible.
If you are past your six-month Open Enrollment window, you’ll likely need to answer health questions in most states. Different companies have different health questions, so, you’ll want to choose one that gives you the best chance of being approved.
In California or Oregon, there is a birthday rule which allows you to enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan without any health questions during your birthday month each year. This rule only applies if you’re already enrolled in a Medicare Supplement though.
Our insurance experts take these rules into consideration when determining which companies have the best Medicare Supplement for you. It may be that you can get into the lowest priced plan with no hassle because of a state law.
Customer Service at the Big Insurance Companies
Where we DO see differences between insurance companies is in their customer service departments. There is no doubt that some insurance companies have better customer service than others.
Let’s say your doctor submits a claim with an incorrect billing code and Medicare denies the claim. People generally want to know that the insurance company is easy to work with to solve the problem.
Fortunately, if you are a MedicareFAQ client, you don’t have to worry about the customer service ratings of the insurance company. That’s because you will rarely have to deal with the insurance company. We deal with them for you.
