Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan C will covers almost all the gaps in Medicare that you’d otherwise be responsible for covering. The only thing it doesn’t cover is the Part B excess charges.
This policy is especially popular in states that don’t allow excess charges, such as; Connecticut, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
All Medicare Supplement Plan C polices are the same, no matter which insurance company you choose. You can find Plan C available in many states from various insurance companies
But you came here to see some Plan C reviews, so let’s see how different insurance companies stack up.
My Medicare Plan C Reviews for Insurance Companies:
- Aetna Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Banker’s Life Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Blue Cross Blue Shield Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Cigna Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Gerber Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Manhattan Life Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Mutual of Omaha Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- Oxford Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- TransAmerica Medicare Supplement Plan G: A+
- ANY OTHER insurance company’s Medicare Plan G: A+
Because this is a Medicare Supplement (and not Medicare Advantage plans, which have hidden expenses), I gave them all an A+ on coverage and benefits. Just like I gave for Plan F and Plan G.
It’s possible that you’ve been looking for a list of insurance companies offering Plan C with a 4 or 5 gold star traditional review. You won’t find this since benefits for Plan C are the same with any insurance company.
In other words, there is no Plan C supplement policy out there that’s going to pay any worse or better than the next companies Plan C policy.
Since Medicare standardized these policies, that means that every Plan C will cover the same gaps in Medicare. Plus, Medicare tells them when and what to pay; so, you never need to worry about your Medicare supplement denying coverage on a bill.
If Medicare pays its share, the Medicare Supplement must pay its share too.
So, in my opinion, every Medicare Supplement Plan C gets an A+ on benefits because it will pay exactly as Medicare has ruled that it will pay.
What is a Part B Excess Charge?
Part B excess charges include a surcharge that a doctor can bill beyond what Original Medicare will reimburse. Doctors are limited to a 15% charge past what Medicare pays. Many doctors won’t charge excess charges; however, sometimes they do.
If this is concerning to you, the Medicare Supplements Plan F or G may be a more suitable choice for you. These two plans will cover excess charges; so, you won’t need to worry about extra expenses.
When a Medicare doctor doesn’t accept Medicare assignment rates, he can and likely will charge you an excess charge. This charge won’t be over the 15% allowed Medicare charge.
The people who live in states that don’t allow doctors to bill excess charges will find that Plan C functions just like Plan F, which is considered first-dollar coverage.
Part C vs Plan C
Medicare Supplement Plan C is one of ten different Medicare supplement options. Part C refers to a Medicare Advantage (MA) plan. MA plans aren’t anything like supplements, they work much differently.
When you buy a Medicare Supplement Plan C, you get to enjoy the freedom to access top physicians and hospitals. You can be worry free when you have this supplement policy, it’ll cover things like inpatient and outpatient deductibles.
Part C, Medicare Advantage plans, usually have a network of doctors and hospitals. MA plans change each year and networks can change in the middle of the year when you’re unable to make a plan change.
Medicare Supplement Plan C has similar benefits for Medicare Supplement Plan F. If excess charges worry you, then consider obtaining quotes for the Plan F Medicare Supplement.
You’ll notice that prices are nearly equivalent, making it quite cost effective to buy the coverage you really want.
Medicare itself has parts and when referring to a supplement, use the word plan.
Go for A or B rated Companies
Your benefits will be the same no matter which company you choose. There are so many different Medicare Supplement companies out there, and financial ratings from companies like A.M. Best can vary quite a bit.
This is my opinion:
There are so many competitively priced, reliable companies offering Medicare Supplement plans with A ratings. There isn’t really a reason to settle for a company with an average or low rating.
With there being so many A and B-rated carriers that you can choose from, why would you want to settle?
Customer Service Comes From Your Agent
Basically, every insurance company has this huge call center where you can call in with a customer service issue. This is no fun, and it’s a hassle.
Why would you want to call a huge company call center and talk to a stranger who doesn’t know you and isn’t familiar with your policy?
You can purchase insurance through one of our licensed insurance experts for the same price you’d get doing the application online, yourself. Our agents can walk you through the application and handle all that customer service for you.

There are so many good reasons to work with an agent, and there are lots of great agents offering plans in your area. Your expenses are the same, there is absolutely no charge for services provided to you by an insurance agent.
